Selling a House When You Live Out of State
Living elsewhere can make a property sale feel like a coordination project. Before deciding whether to travel, identify which tasks require someone at the house and which can be discussed or documented remotely.
Tell us about your house →Choose a reliable access contact
Explain who holds the keys and whether a manager, tenant, relative, or other authorized person is involved. Agree on how visits will be scheduled. Do not assume that someone with a key is authorized to make decisions about the sale.
Questions and details to organize
- Current occupancy and any access restrictions.
- Recent photos that accurately show the property.
- Known maintenance issues and work orders.
- The person authorized to sign and questions for the closing professional.
Confirm the closing arrangements directly
Ask the closing professional what signing and identity-verification process is available for your situation. Remote ownership does not mean every document can be completed remotely. Use verified contact details when confirming sensitive instructions and avoid sending private documents to an unverified recipient.
Explain what you have not seen
If you have not visited recently, state that clearly. A tenant or manager’s description can help start a conversation but is not a substitute for whatever property review the agreement requires. A realistic access plan and honest condition information are more useful than an estimate based on old photos.
Let’s discuss your property
Share the address, condition, occupancy, and your preferred timing. Our team can discuss the available options and explain the next step.
